UNDER 11 - 9-PIECES ON A 3/4 FIELD

Starting with the 2025–2026 season, our club will officially introduce the U11 age group. In this category, 10-year-olds play in 9-a-side teams on a three-quarter pitch. This adjustment is in line with the KNHB's decision to better align youth hockey in the Netherlands with the development of young athletes.

For the U12s, everything remains as it is: they continue to play 11 against 11 on a full field.

Waarom een aparte O11-categorie?

The introduction of O11 is based on insights from research and practical experience at other clubs, including pilots conducted by the KNHB. The benefits at a glance:

  1. ✅ A more coordinated transition: The step from U10 (groups of 8 on a half field) to U12 (groups of 11 on a full field) is a big one, both physically and technically. U11 offers a logical transition, where children have more ball contact, are more engaged in the game, and can prepare for 11-a-side hockey through play.
  2. ✅ Regional integration: Other clubs in our area, such as VMHC Vlijmen, MHC Rosmalen, HC MOP, MHC MEP, MHC Bommelerwaard, and MHC De Dommel, have also decided to introduce the U11 category. This ensures a well-filled competition with plenty of opponents at the same level.
  3. ✅ Development-focused training. Children aged 10 and 11 are in a crucial developmental phase – motorically, socially, and cognitively. At the Bossche Hockey Academy, we strive to tailor training to the needs of children at that age. The U11 program makes this even easier.
  4. ✅ Suitable competition and challenge: A separate competition for U11 teams makes it easier to match the children's playing level and experience. This prevents players from being over-exerted or over-exerted, which increases the fun.
  5. ✅ More fun and connection. Teams with peers strengthen the sense of community. This leads to more fun, parental involvement, and a greater chance that children will continue playing hockey.
